Barcelona begins autumn with its biggest festivals that are celebrated in honor of its patron saint, the Mare de D\u00e9u de la Merc\u00e8. This year they are celebrated from September 20 to 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During these days, all of Barcelona is filled with celebration!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We think it is a great opportunity to come to Barcelona to enjoy its festivities and its leisure activities and plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ORIGIN OF LA MERC\u00c8<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It dates back to 1867 when Barcelona suffered a devastating plague of locusts. A legend says that it was Our Lady of Merc\u00e8 who saved the city and as a sign of gratitude the people of Barcelona named her their patron saint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barcelona during a long and intense weekend echoes in different spaces of the city an uninterrupted party program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year it is run by the prestigious chef Ferran Adria<\/strong> who has joked saying that he would have liked to make dinner and lunch for the entire La Merc\u00e8, can you imagine?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I'm sure he makes good proposals for gastronomic plans<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can't miss the famous ones castellers<\/strong> or multi-story human pyramids on the top of which a child is placed, the parade<\/strong> with big heads and giants<\/strong> and traditional dances or correfocs (<\/strong>a group of people dressed or not dressed as demons parade through the streets of a municipality running, dancing and jumping between fireworks).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other of the most anticipated events of the Merc\u00e8 are the concerts<\/strong>, the marathon<\/strong>, The Wine Fair<\/strong> and the Pyromusical<\/strong>, which through a fireworks and musical show coordinated with the Luminous Fountains of Montju\u00efc bids farewell to these festivities.<\/p>\n\n\n

LA MERC\u00c8 MUSIC FESTIVAL<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the festivities no more and no less than 106 groups from 19 different countries will perform. Plaza de Catalunya will be the stage where multiple artists such as Peret or Los Manolos will add atmosphere to the parties to the rhythm of their guitars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with the concerts in Plaza Catalunya there is the BAM La Merc\u00e8 Festival <\/strong>which has programmed other stages in the Plaza Real, dels \u00c0ngels, Joan Coromines and the Antigua F\u00e1brica Damm where many artists will gather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
